Abstract

This study identified the perceived communication challenges encountered by radiologic technologists in selected hospitals in Laguna. The study employed a quantitative descriptive research design utilizing a purposive non-probability sampling technique. The researchers gathered data from sixty-one (61) licensed professionals through a validated survey questionnaire. The demographic profile of the participants was collected based on age, sex, years of experience, and area of practice. To determine the perceived communication challenges, it is divided across three domains: technologists-patients, technologists-radiology personnel, and technologists-non-radiology personnel. The weighted mean was employed as the primary statistical tool. The findings from the gathered data, as the overall level of perceived communication challenges across three domains, are interpreted as a Moderate Challenge, where specific indicators were identified in high-pressure environments. Challenges were most prevalent when technologists were dealing with time constraints and high-tempered individuals, both within and outside the radiology department. The study results suggested that environmental stressors and emotional volatility may serve as the main disruptors of effective information exchange in the clinical setting. Therefore, an action plan was developed, suggesting standardized communication protocols and interprofessional workshops to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the healthcare environment and ensure the quality of patient care in the selected hospitals in the province of Laguna.
